Welcome to the Blu Arrow Royal Family! Special thanks to everyone who has supported Blu Games in anyway. My goal from the start is to share my passions with a creative edge and motivate people around the world to push themselves to not only chase their dreams but create the life they have always wanted but setting a goal and executing a plan of action.
I thought that RealityXP were a thing of the past but apparently I was wrong. My guess is that the Garmin Trainer application is 32-bit and they haven't quite worked out how to handle the calling convention differences between the two platforms (x8664/x86) but they desperately wanted to release something. In my opinion this will only lead to bad PR due to people not seeing/understanding the fine print and then not being able to use it.A very questionable move on RXP's end, I would say. This won't establish customer trust, especially with the abandonment thing in the past.
And don't get me wrong, I really want to have them and a good GPS-product in the X-Plane market, I am just not convinced theirs is the right strategy. You've hit the nail square on the head here.It should be in size 100 font, flashing pink and green - '32bit only!' There's already one guy on Avsim who pulled the trigger on it not realising it wouldn't work with 64bit.Now given how RXP pretty much abandoned their previous product lineup for many years with no updates, no communication and no support, given how they even failed to update the product information on their website to say their products do not work with either FSX-SE or P3D. As you quite rightly say it doesn't do anything to help rebuild this potential customer's trust in RXP.Kind of funny really - Flight One release a very successful GTN, then the surprise release of a GNS now all of a sudden RXP are back with no explanation why they disappeared, why they left their customers hanging in the breeze and why they gave no support for what - five years? At least we now know why the Brazilian guy who managed to hack the RXP GNS units and get them working in P3D never publically released his work.

He probably got a nice letter from RXP's lawyers. I'm not so interested in the FSX/P3D versions of these products as I already have the Flight One products which have filled the gap left by the old RXP units very nicely.
In fact the new Flight One GNS units have a feature in the installer which detects if you had the RXP units installed in an aircraft's panel and will give you a one-click subsitution for the new Flight One units. Genius!I am interested in the XP versions of these units. However, being a 64bit user I'm stuck watching from the sidelines until the 64bit versions are available. I do hope they give us easy to use tools to install these units into panels, or that XP addon developers give us the option to install these units into their aircraft in the same way that many FSX/P3D developers do. Reading through that thread, I feel I wanna ask - so the Flight1 GTN750, which is not the cheapest add on in the world, is actually just a link to the free garmin trainer that anyone can download? Or am I missing some crucial detail.
There is a lot about that addon that makes you feel like you have bought a real unit for a real plane, such as licencing limitations that prevent it connecting to ASN / AS16 and the unit actually looking for a real WX transponder. Are you just paying for a licence to operate it in the sim, or has a little more more coding legwork gone into it? I am referring to the post by antwob the mod dude. It's not quite as simple as that.Basically they run the GTN trainer outside of the sim, and via whatever software magick they have developed it is linked to and displayed in the sim as a gauge on the aircraft's panel. This is also how the older Reality XP GNS units worked.
Contrast this, for example with the Mindstar GNS units which were programmed as self contained gauges which replicated the functions of the real unit. The advantage of using the trainer linked to the sim is that it doesn't effect VAS or performance in any appreciable way because all the leg work is being done by an external programme (the trainer) running outside of the sim. I'm no expert on how these things work between companies such as Flight1 and Garmin, but I'm guessing the cost is two-fold: one for the ability to use it with your sim, which allows it to interface with the sim radios, transponders, autopilot, etc., and two that there could be licensing fees from Garmin to be able to use the trainer in a commercial environment. Although I guess they could be saying they're not making money off the trainer, but instead the ability to use it in the sim. When all is said and done, I view it as being well worth the price IMHO just because you are using the real, actual Garmin software the GTNs run on, not an approximation, so it's as real as it can possibly get:D. What you must understand is that there are quite a lot of people still using XP 9.What else you must understand is that a lot of people use 32bit. Reddit is a fraction of users that do not represent the whole playerbase. Also, they clearly state on their website '(64bits in progress)'.So it's safe to assume that it will be released at some point in the future:)I am more interested how they handle plane intraction and if putting it into the aircraft is on the user. I doubt we will get fancy installers like in FSX/P3D.
No outrage on my part - but I do know from experience that something like the 32bit only has to be made totally and utterly explicit in a manner that the customer can't miss. The way it is now on their website I think more than a few people are going to miss this very important fact.I am somewhat irked by how RXP have just popped back up suddenly after years of total absence from the scene - no support, no communication, nothing. Their products were pretty popular and they had a strong following, but they simply fell off the face of the earth without warning and left everybody hanging. Plenty of people have tried to get in touch with them over the years to ask about P3D versions and other stuff, but all enquiries went unanswered. They kept their product page up though, so they could still sell stuff, even though they had no intention of supporting it.
Product support was left to customers like Bert Pieke who volunteered his own time to help out people on the RXP forum in the absence of the developer.I dunno, this sort of stuff just irks me. They disappear for so long, leave all their customers with no support and then suddenly reappear out of nowhere holding their hand out for another wad of our money.
So im looking to upgrade to a higher end GPS? System, i actually am unaware what the general term for this kind of hardware is =/I have never purchased one of these so very much in the dark as to there value.I am wondering is the Reality XP GTN 750 a good investment or are there others out there that would be more highly recommended. One thing that concern's me is a bit on the Reality XP website '2 devices per panel / Windows only' i understand the 'windows' part but what does 2 devices per panel mean, am i only allowed to use it on 2 aircraft? If so then ill definately pass on this.
